The perfect rug can transform any interior instantly. There are many factors that one needs to consider when picking the perfect addition to your home.
Adding character to your home
An area rug to define the layout of a room is a tried and tested method in interior decoration. However, creating a visual impact goes beyond size. Good rugs are works of art in and of themselves. So with that in mind, its important to chose a rug that is a reflection of who you are, and not what's considered 'in'. When it comes to choosing that perfect rug for your home, it is important to place your own personality at the heart of it, while also being practical and functional.
Position is key
When choosing the shape and size of the rug, we must consider the size and shape of the room itself. A simple rule of thumb - square rugs work best in square rooms and rectangular rugs complement rectangular spaces. Round rugs are increasingly gaining in popularity these days and can be placed in almost any space, although ideally where the furniture is mostly rounded - such us under a round dining table.
If it feels right, it is right
Other than being an aesthetically alluring addition to your home, rugs woven out of natural fibres like wool or silk also carry with it an element of practicality - easy to clean and long lasting. At Jurande we only work with natural fibres, since we believe rugs must be transmitted from generation to generation. Discover our collection here.
Fashionably safe
If not placed correctly, area rugs can pose to be a tripping hazard. A simple solution to this issue is to use a pad under the rug, however, it is always recommended to choose a rug with ends and corners as flat as possible. For very thin rugs, such as flat woven kilim rugs – soft padding underneath is a must. The padding will help anchor the rug to the floor. This padding not only helps mitigate the potential of tripping, but also adds comfort to hard wood floors.
Care instructions
Hiring a professional can eliminate the stress of rug maintenance and stain removal issues. We always suggest that rugs be professionally cleaned every few years. However, an easy-to-do at home remedy that adds years to your rug is to rotate the rug at least once a year so that the rugs wears evenly.
Moreover, there is no one-formula-fits-all when it comes to picking the ‘perfect’ rug. If you are confused by all that's on offer - go with your gut and you won't regret it.
